On April 27 the Big Cleanup (Talka) will take place across numerous locations in Latvia for the 11th consecutive year, eng.lsm.lv reports.

This year will be different in that people are asked to sort the trash they find as well. You should put plastic in blue bags and use the white ones for the rest.

"This year we're cleaning up under the slogan, 'I belong to the future'. I think we should start thinking more in the categories of 10, 50 and 100 years. This plastic catastrophe which humanity now starts understanding, is huge. And it's no exception in Latvia," said organizer Vita Jaunzeme appearing on LTV.

After the first World Cleanup, in which 157 countries and almost 18 million people took part, a special conference was held in Tallinn in January this year , where Latvia was granted an award for outstanding achievements as the country with the highest steady annual growth in the number of participants.
