Spring is a time for renewal and revitalization, a sort of renaissance for our bodies. Therefore, this story will also be as fresh and vibrant as spring green, just like the rich green color of spirulina.
The use of healthy algae Spirulina has been known to us all for some time, but we want to talk about the unique cultivation process of this valuable tropical microalgae in Latvia and the products created by Spirulina Nord – a Latvian biotechnology startup, and the company’s successful development.
The “Spirulina Nord” approach – Innovative cultivation technology ensures the highest product quality, purity, and nutritional value. Moreover, it has a neutral taste and smell! The company’s spirulina is not dried but is frozen or mixed in syrup or juice immediately after harvesting, which indicates a high attention to the product and its nutritional value.
In Latvia, there is a remarkable number of women scientists compared to other countries. They are not only great in research but also embrace entrepreneurship. Here, science and business work together, fueling innovation and leading us toward a better tomorrow.
The company’s operations are based on a unique cultivation technology developed by two Latvian scientists, Dr. Sc. Ing. Kristīne Veģere and Dr. Sc. Ing. Agnese Stunda Zujeva, thanks to which this valuable tropical microalgae can be grown in Latvia 12 months a year. Yes, even in winter! Therefore, we can safely say that “Spirulina Nord” is the only company in Northern Europe that grows spirulina and creates unique high-quality products from it.
In just a few years, this fantastic idea has progressed significantly, attracting investments about €600,000.
